Products self made(hand-made) have always been especially appreciated. It's a way to get something unique, creative, and something no one else has. The most popular material for creating unique products handmade is polymer clay. How to make such clay yourself at home, we have already written.

However, you can not only make polymer clay and sell it as a separate product, but also create various things from this material yourself. Can be made from polymer clay decorative ornaments(bijouterie), key chains, photo frames, Christmas decorations, dolls, figurines and in general any things that can be useful for home decor.

Polymer clay (plastic) is soft material based on polyvinyl chloride. Polymer clay is initially plastic and soft, it can be sculpted like plasticine. When the product has been given the desired shape, it is heated, as a result of which it solidifies and becomes solid. Some types of polymer clay harden without heat, simply by exposure to air. When creating a product, you can immediately use colored polymer clay, or you can paint a finished solid product. Any acrylic paint will easily fall on it. If products made of polymer clay are not subjected to frequent impacts and other damage, then they can retain their “presentation” for a very long time.

How to sculpt with polymer clay

We will immediately warn you that art modeling is a creative process and requires certain talents. At a minimum, the arms should grow from the "correct" place. If you have always been praised in kindergarten for being good at sculpting a plasticine man, this does not mean that you will also be great at sculpting from polymer clay.

If you want to sculpt purely for yourself, then, of course, you can do it any way you like. But if you want to create your own business in the production and sale of plastic products, and make money on it, then your products must be at least competitive, and at most - stand out sharply from the rest in better side. It takes practice to make significant progress. Therefore, if you feel that you are gaining skill by practicing, then continue in the same spirit. In the opposite case, it is better to think about another form of earnings.

modeling

The very first step that you must definitely take is to carefully knead in your hands that piece of polymer clay with which you are going to work further. So the plastic will become softer, and it will be much easier to give it the desired shape. Start training with the most simple elements, gradually moving to more complex ones.

For example, the first thing you can try to make is a flower and a leaf. To make a leaf, form an oval from a small piece of clay with your fingers, then lightly press it against working surface to make him squirm. On one side of the oval, make a sharper edge, on the other side, leave a rounded one. Using a toothpick, draw veins on the leaf with squeezing movements. You will end up with an element like this:

We move on to the next element of the flower - to the petals. Roll five small balls of polymer clay and use your fingers to flatten them out on your work surface. Try to keep the edges as round as possible. Now you need to form these petals into a flower. Since each petal is slightly stuck to the surface due to pressure, you can break its shape when you remove them.

Therefore, it is better to do this not with your fingers, but with a blade or other flat object. Lay the petals in a circle one on top of the other, overlapping one edge with the next. Then put a leaf under the finished petals - and your flower is ready:

Baking

Next, you need to subject the product to heat so that it hardens. You can use a conventional oven for this. However, if you are using an oven that, in addition to baking polymer clay, also cooks food, then it is best to place the product in a container or food sleeve before sending it to the oven. When baked, plastic can give off vapors that will settle on the walls of the oven and adversely affect the quality of your food.

Although desired temperature and the baking time for a particular type of plastic is always indicated on the packaging, it is better to try it first on a small test piece. Try not to overexpose the product in the oven - otherwise it will burn (turn black) and emit a lot of smoke. In this case, it is urgent to ventilate the room.

Degreasing

You can remove excess fat from the product using any detergent. Apply a small amount of product to cotton wool and wipe the product immediately after baking.

Grinding

Not every piece will require sanding. This procedure should be performed only if there are fingerprints, any bumps or lumps on the surface on the product. If you're just getting started with polymer clay, you won't be able to create perfect surfaces right away. In addition, if you plan to cover the product with varnish or paint, then polishing is indispensable - the varnish will lie much better on the ideal surface. flat surface. Therefore, the ability to sand and polish will come in handy.

You will need sandpaper and a small piece of cloth. Denim is best suited (always an old fabric, as a new one can leave traces of paint on the product), corduroy or suede. Fill a bowl with water at room temperature and mix a little detergent into it.

Next, you need to dip the product in water and wet the sandpaper a little. Start sanding the product from the edges and reverse side(that is, not facial) with coarser sandpaper. Use water to wash off dust and small pieces that form from sandpaper. When you have completed the work with large sandpaper, change the water and start sanding with sandpaper already with fine crumbs. Grind the front side as carefully as possible so as not to spoil the presentation of the product.

At the end of grinding, rinse the product again from the remnants of detergent and grains of sandpaper, and dry it. Next, polish the product with a piece of cloth - just rub the product on all sides with vigorous movements.

Varnishing

To cover the product with varnish, it is best to use special varnishes that are designed specifically for polymer clay. Some "masters" use acrylic-based nail polishes or decoupage varnishes, but this is not really correct solution. Such products can only be made for themselves, but they are unlikely to be suitable for sale. Some products, after careful polishing with a cloth, no longer require varnishing.

In direct contact with the skin, polymer clay may cause allergies or other unpleasant reactions. It doesn't happen often, but it's not worth the risk. Therefore, when performing your first work, it is better to use disposable medical gloves. It is also better not to use dishes that have direct contact with polymer clay when eating.

Tools for working with polymer clay

Each master has in his arsenal the following tools that are very useful when working with polymer clay:

1. Surfaces for modeling. These are flat surfaces made of glass or plastic, preferably big size. It is not recommended to work on a stone or wood surface.

2. Blades, knives. They are needed in different sizes and thicknesses of the cutting part. All blades and knives should be as sharp as possible so that the product does not deform when cutting.

3. Sandpaper. It is used for grinding or, conversely, to give the product an uneven shape (for example, imitation of an orange peel).

4. Fabric (denim, velvet, suede). It is used to polish the product and give a radiant sheen to the surface.

5. Knitting needles and needles. Need different sizes and thicknesses. They are used for making through holes (for example, in beads) or for small dents on the product.

6. Glue. Required for bonding individual elements products.

7. Extruder. This is a special tool that looks like a large syringe from which polymer clay is squeezed out. For extruders, there are various nozzles with which you can get an element of the future product of the shape you need.

What can be made from polymer clay?

Real plastic sculpting professionals offer wide range products. Among the range you can find:

  • Earrings;
  • Rings;

All this can be purchased at any art store.

How and to whom to sell polymer clay products?

Your customers will be people who want to buy jewelry and crafts made of polymer clay for themselves or as a gift to loved ones. As practice shows, a significant percentage of clients are young girls. Now very popular communities in in social networks, which are created by plastic sculptors. There they place catalogs of their products, and each member of the community can choose the product they like and place an order. The main difficulty in this type of product implementation is to attract and retain social network users in the community.

Another way to sell your product is to participate in fairs and exhibitions of hand-made products. Such events are now quite in demand and they are periodically organized in almost every major city. Find out how and where such fairs and exhibitions are held in your city, and follow the dates of their organization. Offer organizers your products as a commodity. If your products are of high quality, then most likely you will not be refused.

Also, in every city you can find shops that sell various souvenirs, jewelry, home decor items. Try to negotiate with such stores on the sale of your goods on mutual terms. In this case, you will act as a supplier of goods.

Since the main advantage of hand-made products is their uniqueness, be sure to offer your customers the opportunity to create a unique product to order. Of course, it would be more reasonable if you introduce such a service when you become a real master. The client describes his wishes to you, perhaps, shows approximate sketches of the work, and you make the product especially for him. Such works usually cost a little more than those made in advance, however, there is a risk that the client will not like the product and he will refuse to pay for it. The moment, of course, is unpleasant, but you can always sell such a product through a general catalog.

How to make polymer clay jewelry: beautiful earrings

With the help of this master class, you will be able to make beautiful polymer clay jewelry in the shape of jars with bells.

You will need the following materials and tools:

  • polymer clay in blue, white and yellow;
  • liquid plastic;
  • working surface - tile, paper;
  • stack for drawing veins;
  • stack with a ball;
  • plastic blade;
  • platypuses, pliers, side cutters (assembly tools);

The process of creating jewelry with your own hands looks like this:

  1. We begin work with the creation of blanks, they will serve as the basis for the bells. Cut the long bronze-colored pins into 15 mm lengths. Using platypus pliers, make loops on each segment by bending one of the sides. For these earrings, you will need 38 of these blanks.
  2. Now start creating the "pestles" for the bells. To do this, polymer clay yellow color roll up a tourniquet about 2 mm thick and cut it into small identical pieces.
  3. Form the petals from the segments and fasten them on the pin loops. Press the petals firmly so that they hold securely on the base, make their edges sharp.
  4. In the same way, make petals from blue clay. Make each petal flat by lightly pressing it with your finger against the work surface.
  5. Using a stack or other suitable object with a thin, sharp edge, vein the petals.
  6. Take the stack with the ball and lightly roll it on inside petal so that it turns out to be slightly concave, while bending its tip back a little.
  7. Now take the pestle on the pins and grease each with liquid plastic, glue the petals to it. For 1 pistil you will need 3-4 petals. Make 38 flowers in this way. Make a few bells in the form of closed buds.
  8. Place the bells in the oven, wait until they are baked, and then bend the pins, forming a small loop.
  9. When the bells are ready, jugs should be made for them. To do this, take white clay and roll out of it 2 identical balls of medium size. Roll it over your palm to make an oval, while on one side it should be a little wider. Flatten the narrower side with your hands to the work surface to make it flat.
  10. From the side of a flat surface, roll up the neck and, using a stack with a ball, make a recess to “put” bells into the jug. Pierce the jug with a pin. Roll a thin strip of white clay, make a pen. Bake in the oven, if necessary, sand and polish, varnish.
  11. For one jug, divide the bells into 3 parts, assemble them into branches in chains, the central part should turn out to be slightly larger than the side ones.
  12. Collect the flowers on the pins, there should be 2 identical bouquets of bluebells. Insert them into jugs, fasten them, attach the earrings, and delicate spring earrings are ready.

Wedding jewelry made of polymer clay: a set decorated with flowers

Wedding jewelry made of polymer clay will complete the gentle and romantic image of the bride.

To create a wedding set, represented by a bracelet and a ring decorated with flowers, you will need:

  • polymer clay - white, white translucent, pink, light brown or beige, green;
  • white acrylic paint;
  • blade or clerical knife;
  • plast machine or acrylic rolling pin;
  • a stack with a ball and a stack with a needle (toothpick);
  • wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm;
  • round-nose pliers, side cutters;
  • round cutter;
  • veiner double-sided with leaf veins;
  • foam sponge;
  • thin white satin ribbon.

The process of making wedding jewelry looks like this:

  1. Soften the plastic in your hands and roll it in the pasta machine on setting No. 5. You should get a layer about 3 mm thick.
  2. Then, using a round cutter with a diameter of no more than 5 mm, cut out many small circles from clay. Lay them on a foam sponge and, using a stack with a ball, thin each element by slightly concave it inward.
  3. From the resulting convex small petals, collect flowers of different sizes. To make a bud, use 3 elements, and to create a beautiful blossoming rose, add to this bud another lower row, consisting of 5 petals.
  4. In each flower do through holes and only after that send it to the oven for baking.
  5. For more flowers large sizes you should also use clay of delicate pastel shades. To do this, roll up a layer 3-4 mm thick in the same way, then take a cutter or plastic cutting in the shape of a leaf and cut out a lot of teardrop-shaped parts.
  6. Place the resulting petal on the palm of your hand and press one of the sides with a stack with a ball so that the elements have uneven edges. With the same stack, make a small indentation in the center of the petal. It is not necessary to make the petals of the same color, you can use several delicate shades that will look harmonious with the bride's outfit.
  7. Now proceed to the formation of large flowers: take three petals with jagged edges and overlap each other to make a bud. The next row consists of 5 petals, which are attached in the same way with liquid plastic. You can make a third row, it should consist of 9 petals superimposed on each other. Beautiful flower arrangements obtained by making the middle of the flower a little darker.
  8. When the polymer clay flowers for wedding jewelry are already made, you can begin to form the stalks and leaves. To do this, use light green clay. If you don't have that color, mix green plastic with white. Roll the light green material on a plastic machine to make a sheet about 3 mm thick.
  9. Then take a plastic cutting in the form of a five-leaf flower and make a lot of elements from a light green clay layer. They will serve as stalks for flowers.
  10. Measure small pieces from the wire, about 5 cm, and cut as much as the stalks. Using round nose pliers, make small loops by bending one side of the wire.
  11. Pass the wire through the through holes in the buds and flowers so that the loop is inside.
  12. Put the flowers in the oven again for re-baking.
  13. Next, proceed to assemble the elements into decoration. To do this, string on a wire small flowers mixed with large flowers by twisting the wire. Attach a wire with a clasp for a necklace to the wire frame, and wrap the structure with a thin satin ribbon white color. It is desirable to do this in two or three approaches in order to be able to completely close the wire.
  14. Follow the same steps to create a wedding bracelet.

Jewelry from precious stones, made by jewelers in a single copy - this is a great choice. But not every girl can afford to buy such an exclusive product because of its high cost. Gold items from the "mass market" series have more than affordable price, but they lack the main highlight - uniqueness.

Therefore, many of our contemporaries prefer to wear jewelry made of simple and cheap materials, but having no analogues. An example is polymer clay jewelry. Such jewelry can be made to order according to the sketches of the customer. And you can master the work with this material yourself and do unique jewelry personally for yourself and as a gift to your friends and relatives.

Photos of jewelry made by craftswomen cannot leave indifferent any connoisseur of beauty. It can be simple but interesting beads, perfect for everyday look, and charming sets that can be worn for a special occasion, including a wedding.

Some craftswomen use a combination various materials. Jewelry made of polymer clay and beads is popular. Sometimes beads, artificial pearls or crystals are used for decoration.

What's the material?

The basis of the material is polyvinyl chloride, it is polymer material which is widely used in everyday life. Furniture, dishes, toys and other things are made from it. Outwardly, polymer clay differs little from plasticine familiar to everyone since childhood. And the technique of working with the material is in many ways reminiscent of modeling from plasticine.

Polymer clay began to be produced for general sale more than fifty years ago. Initially, the material was intended for the manufacture of dolls, but then other ways of using it were invented.

The main difference between polymer clay and plasticine is that when exposed to high (100-130 degrees) temperatures, the material hardens and retains its shape forever.

With this quality, the material resembles natural clay. But the polymer analogue hardens at much lower temperatures than ordinary clay. Therefore, the use of special ovens is not required; it is possible to “fire” in a conventional household oven.

Is there a health hazard?

The composition of polymer clay includes the following substances:

  • Polyvinyl chloride - the substance forms the basis of the material.
  • Plasticizers - special additives, thanks to which the material is easy to knead in the hands and give it any desired shape;
  • Kaolin is a powdered substance that gives the material qualities that make it look like ordinary clay.
  • Dye - polymer clay is available in a wide variety of colors.
  • Mica - the additive is present in varieties of material that has pearlescent shades.

As can be seen from the description of the composition of the material Polymer clay does not contain any substances hazardous to health. However, some caution should still be exercised. When molded parts are heated, vinyl chloride is released in a small amount. Inhalation of the vapors of this substance can cause poisoning. Therefore, it is recommended to fire only when the hood is turned on or open window. After the firing is completed, the release of vinyl chloride will become impossible, so the finished products do not pose any danger, even children can wear jewelry made from this material.

There are varieties of polymer clay that do not require firing. The plasticity of this material is ensured by the introduction of additional additives into the composition, which evaporate during the drying process at room temperature. These additives are not poisonous, however, you should not risk and inhale their vapors. Finished goods It is recommended to dry in a well-ventilated area.

Material Capabilities

The possibilities of polymer clay are very diverse. Any decorations are made from this material - rings, hairpins, earrings, bracelets, medallions, etc. In addition, the material is well suited for making Christmas tree decorations, decor elements, dolls.

If desired, polymer clay products can be made to look like marble, wood or porcelain. For this, special techniques for working with the material are used.

watercolor

Using this technique, you can make products with a "marble" pattern. To do this, you need to take clay of at least two shades and start kneading it with your fingers, making sure that the colors mix, but not completely. If you overdo it, then the marble shade will disappear, and you will get a piece of clay of a uniform color.

The workpiece is rolled out on a glass or ceramic base and cut to form the required parts.

Millifiori

This a more complex technique, which is also called "sausage". To obtain a workpiece, pieces of clay desired shades rolled into flagella of different sizes (in accordance with the idea) and folded in the required order. Then the workpiece is compressed and cut across. On the cut, a certain pattern is obtained.

Mokume Gane

The technique is distinguished not only by a complex name, its execution requires a certain skill. Clay different colors rolled into plates, and put them on top of each other. Then, holes of the required shape are cut out in the prepared workpiece, inserting clay workpieces of a contrasting shade into them. After compressing the workpiece, it is cut into transverse layers, which allows you to get a very unusual pattern.

Filigree

Products made using the filigree technique are distinguished by a special elegance. The difference between the technique is the use of thin flagella and stripes, which decorate the surface of the product, laying them out with intricate patterns.

Salty (sugar)

This technique allows you to get products with a relief. Fashioned beads (or other blanks) are rolled in coarse salt or sugar. After firing, the blanks are placed in water so that the salt (sugar) dissolves.

Where to begin?

Having decided to make a polymer clay jewelry, you should start with the simplest option - making beads or a beaded bracelet. It is necessary to roll identical beads of the desired shape from clay and make holes in them so that later they can be strung on a thread.

It is necessary to burn the finished beads by stringing them on a wire and placing them over the form in weight. If you lay the beads on a flat surface, then one side of the product is deformed. Finished beads are varnished on water based, and then collected on a strong thread or fishing line.

Having mastered the simple technique of working with the material, you can begin to make more complex jewelry. So, if this is jewelry for children, then the elements of jewelry can resemble berries or fruits. Decorations in the form of animal figurines look interesting. Adult girls can also wear such jewelry; they can complement everyday, and especially summer, looks.

Polymer clay flowers are very beautiful. Flowers made by talented craftswomen are difficult to distinguish from living ones at first sight. An airy necklace made of flowers and beads can be a great decoration for a solemn event. The necklace can be paired with a bracelet or earrings. This set will look great with an evening dress.

The article will provide information on how to make polymer clay jewelry.

Beautiful, bright, juicy jewelry is not necessary to buy. You can make them yourself if you master the technique of working with polymer clay.

  • Polymer clay is a material that resembles plasticine in its consistency. But due to heat treatment, it hardens and turns into plastic.
  • Polymer clay comes in a variety of colors, shades, and textures. Colors can be mixed, add sparkles and paints to them
  • This material is non-toxic and even a child can work with it.
  • From polymer clay, you can make almost everything from jewelry: earrings, pendants, bracelets, watch bracelets and much more.
  • Fantasy is the main condition when working with this material. Flowers, fruits, animals, abstract elements - this is not a complete list of what can be done with polymer clay.
  • First, let's choose a manufacturer of polymer clay. It can be expensive and cheap, with a wide range of colors, it can be sold as a set or individual bars.
  • Manufacturers such as Fimo, Kato, Pardo are quite expensive. There are also domestic, cheaper analogues
  • Don't buy a package various colors. Buy 1 bar and try it at home: like its texture, miscibility with other plastics and paints, bake the resulting material. good clay should not crack or excessively change color
  • For modeling, you will need standard colors, which can later be mixed. Also need tools and a small electric oven
  • Usually on the packaging of polymer clay it is written how long it needs to be baked until cooked and at what temperature.
  • Please note that polymer clay must be handled with care. Wear medical gloves and on a clean surface to maintain color purity.
  • If you decide to make plastic jewelry, then in addition to clay, you will need accessories: earrings for earrings, fasteners, decorative details and much more.

Polymer clay flowers: master class

  • The most common and any flower is roses. At first glance, it is very difficult to make it, but it is not.
  • Pay attention to the structure of this flower - many fastened petals, which are larger at the outer base and smaller at the inner
  • Let's prepare the materials: we need plastic of the color of the future rose (red, pink, yellow or white), a stack for modeling with a ball at the end
  • Let's make blanks for future petals: pinch off a piece of clay, knead it and roll it into a ball. Large balls - for the outer petals, smaller - for the inner
  • Now we miss the bud from a thin layer of plastic
  • We make each petal from a ball, with the help of a stack we give it a curved shape (this can also be done by hand)
  • Alternately attach the petals to the bud, adjusting the splendor of our flower
  • The finished rose can be used for jewelry. To do this, cut the base and make a hole for mounting
  • Gently lay the flowers in the oven and bake until tender. Then they can be varnished as desired.

Now let's learn how to turn our roses into earrings. There are two ways. One of which is easier, the second is more difficult, but the result is simply gorgeous

Simple earrings made of polymer clay (rose blanks)

  • We take out the roses from the oven. They already have a hole for mounting.
  • To turn them into earrings, we need: a pin with a double-sided eyelet, rings for fastening, earwires
  • We string the rose on the pin and fasten it so that there is an eyelet for fastening with a detail at the top and bottom
  • On upper part using a ring we attach a fastener
  • On the lower part - a bead in the color of a rose (or as fantasy suggests). The bead will make the earrings a little heavier and they will hang down without twisting.

Earrings in the form of a bouquet of roses

  • We need rose blanks again. But now raw and very small. They can be in various contrasting colors, such as red and white.
  • We make the base ball. We attach roses to it with a toothpick. Make sure that they are in good contact with the base ball and do not fall off after baking.
  • Gaps can be filled with small green plastic sheets
  • In the ball, carefully make a hole where the pin will be attached.
  • We bake our flower bouquet. The baking time will be slightly longer, since the clay is denser
  • After cooling, we attach our ball to the fastener. Spectacular earrings are ready!

Polymer clay bracelet

  • In the beginning, let's figure out what elements the bracelet consists of: the base (chain, tourniquet, wire or fishing line), clasp and decorative elements
  • We buy the base and the clasp in the hardware store, but we make the decorative elements ourselves
  • Let's make a bright berry bracelet from raspberries and blackberries. It will complement any summer look and looks very original.
  • To make raspberries, we need clay Pink colour and green, for the leaves. Making berries is very easy. The base is a dense plastic ball. Small balls of the same color are attached to it. The balls are smaller on the bottom, larger on the top. We attach the leaves to the base of the berry and attach the fastener. We bake the berries according to the instructions for working with clay
  • We make blackberries in the same way, but from black or dark purple plastic
  • To make our bracelet brighter, in addition to berries, we attach beads to the base
  • For the basis of such a bracelet, it is better to use a chain with a decorative clasp.

Polymer clay ring

  • A polymer clay ring can be made in two ways: solid plastic or based on
  • A solid ring is made using a mold. Mold is a heat-resistant silicone mold that is filled with plastic and baked with it. The hard plastic is then simply demoulded, sanded and varnished.
  • For the second version of the ring, a base is needed. There are many such bases in hardware stores, where there is a niche for fixing plastic
  • How to decorate the ring can be imagined indefinitely. There are a lot of options, but the simplest and most versatile option is flowers.
  • A ring complete with earrings or a necklace looks especially original.

Polymer clay beads

  • To learn how to make beads from polymer clay, first learn how to make even, neat beads.
  • Even ordinary beads are not so easy to make to be the same size and correct shape. Practice making even balls of the same size and making holes in them for fasteners
  • when the basics are mastered, you can start making decorative beads

Metal effect polymer clay beads

  • Such beads are difficult to distinguish from metal ones. But thanks to your imagination, they will be unique
  • We need plastic gray color or metallic colors, embossing element (e.g. button) and tools
  • First, roll up an even ball of plastic
  • Now we roll out the plastic into a dense layer and use a button to make an embossing. To prevent the button from sticking to polymer clay, dampen it with water.
  • Then carefully cut out the embossed elements with a blade and attach them to the ball
  • We decorate the junction with a decorative plastic cord
  • We make a hole in the bead for fastening
  • Such beads can be used for beads, bracelets, earrings and more

Clay headbands

  • For clay headbands, it is better to choose a thin base, plastic or metal.
  • When fixing the elements, make sure that they do not cling to the hair.
  • Here are examples of headbands for inspiration:

  • The basis of the hairpin can be an old plastic hairpin, an ordinary hairpin machine or invisible
  • To make the hairpin last for a long time, do not choose too massive elements for small bases.

Brooch made of polymer clay

  • Let's make a simple but cute cat brooch out of polymer clay
  • Choose a cat template that we like. Print it out on the printer right size and cut out
  • Now we prepare the plastic by rolling it into a thin layer
  • We put the template on the plastic and carefully cut out the desired shape with a blade
  • Pendants made of polymer clay
    • Making an original abstract pendant is easier than it seems
    • To do this, we need plastic of several colors and a special machine for rolling plastic
    • Such a machine allows you to evenly roll out polymer clay and, importantly, create a smooth color transition.
    • This result can be achieved without a machine, but it is painstaking work.
    • We put the plastic in the right color scheme and roll it into a thin layer
    • Then cut off even thin strips and fold into circles
    • It looks original if the edges of the strips are rough
    • We bake the received element. Can be used as a pendant or necklace
