The manufacturer’s regulations suggest changing the oil every 120 thousand km, the manufacturer indicates this mileage considering driving on the highway, the so-called operating mode is “highway”, but if you delve into the research, there is also a “taxi” mode and the manufacturer’s recommendations for this mode are reduced The frequency of maintenance for mileage is two - 60 thousand km.

If you live in a metropolis and regularly sit idle in traffic jams and use your car in “taxi” mode (acceleration, braking), then we recommend servicing your car at half the recommended mileage; there is a concept called “motor hours” that is applicable in this case for city motorists, idling in traffic jams does not increase mileage, but the engine and automatic transmission are depreciated (they work and reduce their service life).

Change of oil

  • The oil is drained from the gearbox crankcase (about 2-3 liters will drain).
  • The “lower point” hose (from the automatic transmission cooling radiator) is disconnected.
  • New oil is poured into the crankcase and the engine starts, the new fluid begins to squeeze out the old one.
  • At the “distant point”, used oil (black or dark in color) begins to flow through a transparent hose until fresh, clean oil flows out.
  • Add oil to the required level.
  • The box is tested, after which the level is checked again, and oil is added if necessary.
  • The “acidity” is reset through the software.

We recommend using only original, otherwise no one will guarantee that the box will travel more than 10 thousand km without various problems. Yes, the automatic transmission manufacturer does not produce oil either, but it adds additives that change the density of the oil and the software makes it specifically for the oil it has modified (which has a density different from oils from other suppliers).

As the mileage increases, the list of works also expands. So, after finishing grinding in the engine, transmission and suspension components, it is advisable to visit a service station to change the engine oil and filter, as well as to check the technical fluids and the condition of the fasteners.

The first and second maintenance include checking electrical systems, reading and resetting errors, updating engine oil, oil, air and cabin filters. Also inspected are head lighting and hazard warning devices, seat belts, steering and shock-absorbing components. The engine compartment is inspected for leaks and effusion.

Scheduled routine maintenance of the Volvo XC70 at 60 thousand km includes the replacement of spark plugs and brake fluid.
