A metal rose is a stylish decoration for any interior. Such a flower will never lose its attractiveness, and made with your own hands, it will become an original gift to a loved one. Making such an unusual flower is quite simple. You just need to be patient, as well as the necessary tools.

What you need to make a rose from metal

To create a metal flower, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • smooth metal sheet, the thickness of which will be approximately 5 mm;
  • a steel rod for a rose stem with a diameter of about 10 mm;
  • anti-corrosion agent or engine oil for processing crafts.

Necessary tools for creating jewelry:

  • grinder or grinder with two types of discs - for grinding and for cutting;
  • drill for metal work with drills up to 1 cm in diameter;
  • pliers and pliers;
  • wire cutters;
  • apparatus for welding;
  • gas-burner;
  • hammer and anvil.

It is better to make a flower in the open air or in a ventilated area. It is important to observe safety precautions when working with tools and metal. Having provided all the necessary conditions, you can start making roses.

The process of making petals for a metal rose

To make a flower bud, we cut out at least four squares of 10x10 cm from a sheet of metal. The more petals there are, the more magnificent and luxurious our rose will be. Using an ordinary felt-tip pen, we draw sketches of petals on the blanks, along which we cut them out with a grinder or a grinder. You don't need to cut them all the way to the end.

Next, you need to give the blanks the necessary texture. To do this, use a hammer and anvil. With gentle hammer blows, flatten the edges of the petals on one side. The same must then be done with the future leaves of the stem.

To plant our petals on the stem, you need to make a special hole in their center. To do this, you can use a drill or welding. When using a drill, drill a hole in the center of each petal equal in diameter to the stem of the flower. The application of welding consists in burning holes of the desired diameter using the electrode of the welding machine. We do this carefully so as not to make the holes larger than necessary.

After the blanks of the petals are ready, we alternately put them on a metal rod and weld them to it. We put the first blank for the petal on the rod, leaving about 2 cm from its end. We place the petals crosswise. When connecting the petals to the flower stem, try to melt the rod more, as the metal of the petals is thin and can burn out. We bend the lower petals down, forming the sepals of the flower.
To give our petals the desired shape, we use a gas burner, with which we heat the products. Next, using pliers, we bend the central petals inward, and the rest around them. Having connected the petals, you need to slightly bend their edges.

Making Metal Rose Leaves

In addition to the bud itself, it is necessary to supplement the flower stem with leaves. To do this, draw a sketch of future leaves on a metal sheet and cut them out with a grinder. We make small notches along the edges of the leaves and make them slightly wavy, so that it looks natural. We connect the finished leaves with the stem by welding.

In the same way, metal spikes can be welded to the stem of the flower, which are cut out in the form of small triangles. If the stem is too long, it can be cut with a grinder. The average length of such a stem is usually 40 - 50 cm.

Rose treatment against corrosion

The final stages of creating a metal flower will be anti-corrosion treatment. If this is not done, the craft will lose its attractiveness over time. For these purposes, you can use varnish or spray paint. It is very convenient to purchase special paint in a spray can, which can be silver or golden. It is convenient and evenly applied to the product and dries quickly.

Another treatment method is to use unused engine oil. It is applied to a pre-heated product, processing all its elements. After that, the rose is heated again to remove excess oil. Using this method will give the flower a noble dark shade. An elegant souvenir is ready.

A handmade gift is always remembered more strongly and arouses admiration. You invest your time, effort and soul into it. Flowers are beautiful, but short-lived. Iron, handmade, is a wonderful gift that will delight for many years and make an indelible impression on the recipient.

Materials and tools for creating an iron rose

  • welding machine (semi-automatic or inverter; for inverter, use electrodes 2 mm thick at a current value of 50-70 A)
  • angle grinder or grinder (with cutting and grinding discs; it is better to use a cutting disc 1 mm thick, and a grinding disc - petal type)
  • drill with drills for metal with a diameter of 0.5 - 1 cm
  • iron rod with a diameter of 8-12 mm (for flower stems)
  • sheet iron 0.5 mm thick; (you can use metal from the hoods or fenders of the car, its thickness according to GOST is 0.5 - 0.8 mm)
  • gas burner, or any other heat source
  • 300 g of engine oil (preferably unused)
  • round nose pliers
  • felt-tip pen

Cut out 4 squares from an iron sheet with a side of 10 cm. If you want your rose to be more magnificent, prepare 5 squares.

Draw on the squares the shape of future petals, and on one of them - a kind of "wind rose". This will be a blank for the sepals, so do not try to achieve perfect symmetry - nature makes each of its creations individual.

Take an iron rod, if necessary, shorten it to the desired length - this is the stem of the future rose (40-50 cm).

Now you need to make holes for the stem in the cut blanks of the petals. There are 2 ways - drilling and welding.

Using a drill, we drill a hole strictly in the center, the diameter of the hole should correspond to the diameter of the rod. If the diameters don't match, let's say you chose a 12mm rod and the thickest drill you have is 8mm, then drill 3 holes side by side so that you get one hole of the right size. Bend the inner edges with round-nose pliers or thin pliers. The rod must fit tightly into the holes, otherwise it is difficult to weld it.

Use a 3 mm thick electrode and set the current to about 100 A. Bring the electrode to the center of the petal and start the arc. Press the electrode into the metal, piercing it through. Since we use thin sheet iron, it will burn through easily. But be careful, the hole should not be too big.

Tip: You don't have to make perfectly round holes. They must be made such that the rod is in contact with them by at least 50% of its diameter. This is a prerequisite for proper welding and strength of the entire structure. In the process of making holes, periodically apply a rod to them, this will allow you to control the process.

Step back 2 cm from the end of the rod. Now put the blanks with petals on it, starting with the sepals. Arrange each layer of petals so that the petals are criss-crossed. Secure each layer by welding. Be careful - thin metal burns out quickly, so melt more rod than petals.

Bend the leaves of the bottom layer down.

Now the most interesting part of the work is the formation of the petals. Heat the still flat petals with a gas burner. Red hot is not necessary, just a little heat is enough. Under the influence of temperature, the metal becomes ductile, better molded and the likelihood of unwanted deformations is reduced.

With thin pliers or round nose pliers, bend the 2 central petals so that they are wrapped inside each other. Bend the rest of the petals around them.

Layer by layer, bend all the petals, bending the tips in the opposite direction.

Now we need to make rose leaves. Draw their outlines on the metal sheet. They may not be the same either.

Cut the leaves with a grinder.

On both sides of the leaves, make notches, as shown in the photo.

Carefully! Hold the leaves only with pliers, in no case with your hands !!!

Change your grip as you cut. Hold the sheet by one edge and make notches on the other, then vice versa.

Bend the leaves with your hands and attach them to the stem of the rose at the weld points. Be careful not to burn them.

Rose is ready. But raw metal will rust over time, and corrosive processes must be prevented. There are many options - spraying, varnishing, you can even paint a rose in the colors of a living flower.

I preferred to do the bluing. To do this, you need to heat the rose, cover it with engine oil and heat it again so that the excess oil burns. Work should be carried out only in a ventilated area, and preferably in the open air, since when heated, the oil will smoke.

With minimal metalworking skills, you can make original and beautiful things. One of them is a rose, stylish and original. It will be a wonderful gift or home decoration. In the article, we will consider how to create a rose from metal with your own hands. Information about drawings and dimensions is also provided.

List of materials and tools

We will need such devices to make a rose from metal with our own hands (a photo of the work is presented in the article):

  • Bulgarian;
  • angle grinder;
  • discs for the machine: grinding, cutting;
  • drill;
  • drills of different diameters, up to one centimeter;
  • gas heater;
  • round pliers, flat pliers, long pliers;
  • wire cutters;
  • hammer;
  • pliers;
  • anvil;
  • file;
  • marker;
  • welding machine.

From the materials you need to stock up:

  • metal rod (stem of a future rose);
  • sheet metal;
  • unused engine oil.

List of parts and their quantity

To make a rose, we need parts:

  • The first outer leaf is 5 petals.
  • The second sheet is slightly smaller in diameter - 4 petals.
  • The third sheet of the same diameter - 4 petals;
  • The fourth sheet is slightly smaller in diameter - 3 petals.
  • Fifth sheet (propeller of a slightly smaller diameter) - 4 narrow petals.
  • Five leaf star.

For stem:

  • Branches 2-4 pieces.
  • Leaves 2-4 per branch.

Drawings of petals

Four or more squares (depending on the volume of the rose) are cut out of sheet metal, 10 by 10 centimeters in size. Rose petals are drawn on them with a marker. On one of the squares they draw a figure similar to the wind rose. This square will be a blank for the sepals of the future flower. To achieve greater realism, you do not need to maintain perfect symmetry.

Rose petals are cut out with a grinder or grinder, but you should not cut them to the end. After that, the blanks of petals, leaves and sepals are flattened around the edges. This can be done with a hammer on an anvil. With short strokes of the tool, the tips of the blanks are flattened, and then the texture of the leaves is applied to the metal surface with the pointed side of the hammer. It can be done on one or both sides.

If you need to shorten a metal rod, use a grinder. On average, the length of the stem is 40-50 cm, but this is a matter of taste. Then holes should be made in the blanks of the petals. They are performed in one of two ways: welding or drilling.

  1. Welding. The electrode is brought to the center of the petal and the arc is ignited. Its thickness should be approximately three millimeters, pressing into a metal plate, it is pierced through. The set current value is 100 A. The hole is burned quite simply, so you should be especially careful that its diameter does not turn out to be wider than the size of the stem. In order for the welding to turn out to be correct and the strength of the structure not to suffer, it is good if the holes are not perfectly even, since 50% contact is enough. To control the process, it is recommended to try on the stem to the hole as often as possible.
  2. drilling. The hole is drilled exactly in the center. Its size should ideally fit the thickness of the metal rod, which is the stem. The rod should fit snugly into the through hole, so it will be easier to proceed with the further welding process. If it turned out to be a little smaller, then more holes are drilled next to the hole and connected together, checking the desired diameter.

Cutting flowers and petals

After the petals have been given a characteristic structure, the outline is once again outlined with a marker, and the details are cut out. No need to try to hit the line exactly, in the further stages of processing, the curvature of the petals will only make them more realistic. Experience has proven that it is easiest to first cut a circle along the contour, and then cut through the petals from the outside to the center. After that, the workpiece is turned over and cut through the remaining sides. Initially, it will not be very convenient, because there is no picture on the back, but in the end everything will work out. Making a rose from metal with your own hands according to the instructions proposed in our article is not difficult. But remember, the flower will look natural if you do not make all the details symmetrical.

After the petals are cut out, you can move on to the leaves for the stem. They are drawn by hand, since symmetry is not needed here, and then cut out with metal scissors. Do not worry that in the process of cutting the metal can bend, in the future everything will straighten out and will look as it should.

Assembling a rose, shaping

A few centimeters recede from the end of the stem and clamp it with a vise. Observing the sequence, the petals are strung on the tip through the holes made and each subsequent layer is welded to the previous one.

They start with a five-leaf star, then go the five-leaf, 2 four-leaf one after the other, the shamrock and the petal-propeller. When all the petals are collected, a rose bud has clearly been outlined. It remains to give it a more natural form.

Starting from the center, alternately fold the petals into a tube and bend the edges. Next comes the trefoil: the petals are lifted up, and their edges along the very edge are bent outward. You should not get hung up on a certain shape, no two colors are the same, it is better to play with shape and texture.

Anti-corrosion treatment

To preserve the appearance of the rose for a long time, it must be treated with an anti-corrosion compound. It can be paint, special coating or varnish. However, most often craftsmen use engine oil, this processing technique is called “burning”.

To do this, it is necessary to heat the rose properly, cover all its components with engine oil and re-heat so that the excess oil burns. Since the component smokes heavily when heated, the procedure is best carried out outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. As a result, the rose will acquire a beautiful shade and will be protected from corrosion.

Tin rose

If you do not have a special device, but really want to make a rose out of metal with your own hands, you can also do without welding. To do this, take a thin sheet of metal.

To make roses from thin tin you will need:

  • cans;
  • pliers;
  • scissors for metal and ordinary;
  • wire;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • nail;
  • ruler;
  • templates.

Technique:

  1. Tin cans are cut, unfolded and templates are applied to them. On the blanks, all the details of the flower and stem are outlined, after which they are cut out.
  2. Using a nail and a hammer, holes are made in the center of the parts.
  3. Notches are made along the edges of the leaves with scissors, and veins are made along their center with a screwdriver.
  4. With pliers, the stem with leaves is bent inward, forming a twig.
  5. The ends of the asterisk are made thinner by folding them inward with pliers.
  6. I fold the inner rose petals from the stripes.
  7. The petals of the flower rise up, forming a basket.
  8. The wire is cut into pieces: 3 pcs. 25 cm long and 1 pc. 35 cm
  9. The ends of three short wires are twisted in a coil, and the one that is longer is wrapped on one side only.
  10. All blanks are twisted, forming a stem. The curls at the bottom are unfolded, thus making a flower stand.
  11. With a thin wire, the stem is tightly wrapped together with the branch, not reaching the end of 4-5 cm.
  12. Finally, the details are strung, starting with an asterisk. The end of the wire is hidden inside the flower.
  13. The finished product is coated with paint from an aerosol can.

As you can see, creating a metal rose is pretty easy. Even fragile female hands can make a beautiful flower from a thin sheet of tin. The most important thing to pay attention to is to be careful. Working with sharp iron is a dangerous occupation.

Metal jewelry has never gone out of style. Of course, you can easily buy them from craftsmen. But what could be more beautiful than a hand-made metal rose, presented to a beloved woman, or a hand-made candlestick, presented to friends on the occasion of a family celebration?

How to make a metal flower?

The technology of making a metal rose is not difficult to master. It is only necessary to show patience and masculine practical ingenuity.

To make metal jewelry by doing your own work, you will need a sheet of roofing iron, which is better to anneal to give plasticity and softness. Next, you need to mark five star-shaped figures on the metal. Four stars have pointed petals, and the fifth one is straight. The diameters of the circumscribed circles of the pointed stars are: 12 cm, 10 cm, two 6 cm each. The figure with straight petals has a diameter of 8 cm.

Rose

The next step is the manufacture of three cylindrical mandrels with base diameters of 1, 1.5, 2 cm. The material of the mandrels can be hardwood or metal. The carved star is placed on a slab of hard wood or lead. The mandrel is placed along the line connecting the center and tip of the petal. With light blows of the hammer, they bend around the metal of the petal around the mandrel. Thus, all the petals are processed. The smaller the diameter of the sprocket, the smaller the diameter of the mandrel must be taken for its processing.

Next - the mandrel with a rounded end end is placed in turn in the center of each sprocket and hit with a hammer. The stars should take a neat bowl shape. With the help of round-nose pliers, at your discretion and desire, you need to bend the tips of the flower petals outward. At the inner asterisk of the smallest diameter, leave the tips even. Processing should be carried out in such a way that after its completion all the stars easily folded into each other. Skillfully handmade metal flowers can be made not only in the form of a rose, but also any other flower. It all depends on your desire and imagination.

Next step. From metal, cut out leaves with minted veins. as a stem

you can take a thick wire. Place blanks on the end of the stem and grab them for strength.

To give the flower a complete color scheme, it must be heated to red, cooled in oil and washed in gasoline. After all these procedures, the product will have a beautiful, very dark shade.

DIY metal candlesticks

A unique candlestick can be made using simple materials and tools:

  • a metal strip from a sheet 3 mm thick, 40 mm wide, 400 mm long and a strip of the same metal 20 mm wide and about 500 mm long;
  • a piece of metal sheet 2 mm thick with dimensions 100 x 100 mm;
  • green paint;
  • hacksaw;
  • files - flat and round;
  • hammer;
  • drill with a drill 6 mm;
  • ruler, needle and core for marking;
  • to assemble parts.

Candlestick - sketch

Bracket part No. 1, which will be attached to the wall, is made of a strip with a section of 3 mm x 40 mm, 400 mm long. The ornament of your choice is applied along the edge of the workpiece with a round file. A hole is drilled in the strip for hanging on a wall mount. The upper end of the strip can be bent with a hammer, holding the part in a vise.

A piece in the form of a circle is cut out of a sheet 2 mm thick for installing a candle. This detail can be decorated with a flower, which is cupped in the manner described in the previous section. A hole with a diameter of 6 mm is drilled in the center of the round part. Souvenirs made with soul and with your own hands require imagination and some skills when working with a metalwork tool.

Next, bracket No. 2 is made with a section of 3 mm x 20 mm and a length of about 50 cm. One end of it will then be attached by welding to bracket No. 1. The second end is cut along 100-150 mm. The ends are bent in different directions, they are given an arcuate shape. The resulting bowl for a candle is installed on the formed stand and tacked by spot welding to the strips.

Now you need to think about how to attach the candle to the candlestick. For this purpose, you need to take a piece of rod with a diameter of 8 mm and a length of 35-40 mm. One end of the 10 mm bar is machined to a diameter of 6 mm. At the second end, a point is created on a lathe or with a file. The end with a diameter of 6 mm is inserted into the hole in the candlestick bowl.

After assembling all the details, the candlestick is painted with dark green metal enamel or patinated. If you like do-it-yourself engraving on metal as a decoration, then the easiest way is the electro-chemical method, which is available to everyone.

Curly lattices obtained by cold forging

How can you decorate your site with fantasy with your own hands? Figured lattices, gate, gates. But if you use products obtained by hot forging, then such an accomplishment can result in a very decent amount. You can, of course, make all these structures from a strip 4 mm thick, bent using primitive devices. However, the appearance of such gratings, as well as their reliability, leaves much to be desired.

The most optimal is the use of equipment that allows you to create from a rod with a section of 1 cm x 1 cm and 1.2 cm x 1.2 cm parts that imitate hot forging products. The resulting products are much cheaper than hot forged ones, but they are also beautiful and reliable.

Various devices in combination with for welding make it possible to make real metal patterns by working with your own hands: multi-threaded spiral curls, a rod or strip twisted along a vertical axis, three-dimensional parts that are used in the production of “three-dimensional” gratings.

Particularly impressive is the figure obtained from square rods 6 mm x 6 mm welded together. It's called "flashlight". With the help of welding, it is possible to obtain periodic patterns “boyar” and “wave” from parts bent by the “ ” method.

With the help of metal patterned parts obtained by cold forging and assembled, arbors, pergolas, decorations for the porch, stairs and canopies can be made. Such curly metal products are perfectly combined with all architectural styles and are able to decorate any premises and garden plots.

I am with you again and will rejoice new articles about homemade products every day!

This work is done with a minimum of tools and is available for repetition by almost anyone.
Tool

I also forgot to add a hammer and a soldering iron (burner), but metal scissors turned out to be superfluous.
A round threaded contraption :) is part of the Zhiguli ball joint.
Let's start with petals, cut out such blanks from tin

We anneal, put it in a spoon and begin to slowly bale the ball, giving the shape we need

In the photo, the initial version with petals already bent, later made uncurved and first polished, and only then bent.
Then we make a hole in the tail, collect a few pieces and see how it turns out

A total of 7 petals were made.
And then I ran into a problem: I can’t make the petal smaller than the ball one ...
It was a two-day plug. In the end, a solution was found. Cut out this strip of metal.

We make cutouts on it

Then we take a bolt, saw it with a hacksaw for metal

soldering

and roll it up :)

Slightly put forward and begin to bend the petals.

Then we solder the tip so that the circle becomes rigid.
Now let's move on to the sepal.
We take a ball joint and BLOW with a hammer so that the necessary recess is formed in the tree.

We burn a strip of copper tin.

We pound on it with all our urine. We cut it out as we need, then I think it’s clear from the photo

We drill a hole and collect the flower.

Now we make a receptacle.
I didn't have the required copper ingot... so I had to do this:

We solder (do not forget to solder a nut into the wide end :)), clamp it into a drill, process
in the narrow part we cut the thread (or also solder the nut)

The stem is a copper tube (in my opinion from the refrigerator).
We twist everything together 🙂

Now twigs and leaves.
Twigs are ordinary wire, we drill a hole in the stem and solder it there:

The original version of the leaves

It had to be abandoned, because when punching recesses (under rhinestones), they are strongly
warped. Therefore, they were made by the LUT method.

Well, a few words about fixing stones
We grind two such punches onto a cone, with cones equal to the cones of stones
