Advantages: As an independent Princess Of Music account, I will write a review about this radio based on personal impressions.
Panasonic RX-D55 has quite high functionality, reads all media, modern and ancient, has quite a lot of different sound controls (built-in equalizer settings and separate Bass, Treble), music port.
The built-in equalizer settings Heavy, Soft, Vokal, Clear, Off-Eq have a very different sound and really apply to different styles of music and personal mood.
Reads tags, but only in Latin. It’s convenient to use flash drives, you don’t need to remember the name of, for example, 85 albums on a flash drive, the radio will write the name (but it’s thoughtful, it won’t write right away, but after 1-2-3 seconds). Even tags can be read normally Not every music center.
Shows the names of album folders, and when playing at the beginning of the sound, the name of the composition, but once, and then only displays its serial number.
It doesn’t crawl when you insert or remove the flash, its weight allows it to not crawl.
The cassette player and CD drive on my copy are silent.
The remote control is very convenient, there are buttons for the equalizer, separate settings for Bass and Treble.
Cassette deck.
http://fotki.yandex.ru/next/users/princessromantic/album/400007/view/1112461
We still have about 150 cassettes, which no one dares to throw away.
There is some charm in this, insert an old cassette into a mechanical deck, press a mechanical button, the magnetic tape will spin, the music will play, it’s nice to have such an opportunity.
The sound adjustment is smooth without sudden jumps, there are 50 volume levels in total, you can make it very quiet.
Quite beautiful and neat, photo:

Disadvantages: Despite the readable tags (text information), the RX-D55 does not have RDS (text sent by the radio station), it does not write the name of the station, you need to remember at what frequency who is broadcasting.
An 8GB flash drive (Silicon Power UFD ULTIMA II-I) takes 25-30 seconds to prepare for playback, while my music systems detect it almost instantly - insert it and immediately get music.
The radio is not the strongest; the Sony CFD-S07CP and Mystery BM-6110U radios have better radio reception.
There are only 16 positions in the memory of radio stations, but that’s how many it caught (with clear sound) out of 31 available. In reality, it can catch everything, it catches a lot more stations, but there the sound becomes static and hissing on weak stations (I don’t need that) .
On the stations I left, the sound is very decent and stable, and I caught it in stereo, but in mono the reception may be better.
The transparent window on the cassette player is a very thick film.
There is no recording from cassettes to USB, only from USB or disc to cassette (cannot convert analog signal to digital, but almost no one can do this).
There's a headphone jack in the back, but that's what everyone has.
There are no batteries for the remote control included.

Comment: Still, in terms of ease of use, I give the RX-D55 5 stars, in general the radio controls are very well thought out and convenient, the cassette player button cover (opens in a cool way), the buttons themselves are convenient (compared to, say, the Sony CFD-S07CP).
If you press the Sound Virtualizer button, the radio noticeably improves the quality of HF, stereo and musicality.
In general, there are no strong bass and super-special crystal-clear highs, despite the presence of ceramic tweeters.
The RX-D55 has the sound of a radio, not a music center (or a cheap music center, which is basically a radio with speakers).
It can be noted that there is good musicality, I would even say that it is musical (only with the Sound Virtualizer button pressed).
In general, I don’t need anything more from the radio.
***
If we compare with modern Mystery BM-6110U and Sony CFD-S07CP radios, which this Panasonic was purchased to replace, then when the Sound Virtualizer button is pressed, the Panasonic RX-D55 is noticeably better than them in sound, the sound is larger, deeper, wider frequency range, but RX-D55 and 2 times more expensive.
In terms of sound, the Panasonic RX-D55 corresponds to its price - it is noticeably superior in quality to a radio that costs about 3 thousand, but is inferior to devices costing 8 thousand or more.
If we take into account the functionality, USB, cassette deck, then in my opinion the RX-D55 is a fairly successful model.

Advantages: I hope that the quality of workmanship will be an undeniable advantage! Specifically: the sound quality is above average, loud and quite clear (with CD and USB), if you put your ear to the speaker and turn the volume to 1, you can hear background noise, at a distance from the device it’s not critical, as for the cassette - it all depends on the quality of the source, there is such a feature as sound virtualizer - the sound is cool, voluminous, there is a clock - good, you can set an alarm clock (haven’t tried it yet), and there is also programming of stations, though not enough, only 16, but at least something, the most favorite (optional), according to It’s heavy in weight, probably a lot of iron rather than plastic, navigation is quite passable, basically all control is from the remote control, so you need to take care of the remote control. Remembers the stop location on the flash drive.

Disadvantages: Disadvantages: it's 2014! but there is no memory to remember the stopping place on the disk! I called Panasonic, they confirmed - yes, there is no memory, press pause, why should I keep it for days? In general, after “stop” the disc starts over, and there are more than 100 songs on the MP3 disc. There is no memory - a huge minus! Although there are batteries for memory, they are probably for the watch. The receiver is not “super”; it doesn’t pick up some stations very well; I have a car radio in my car and it picks up better! The windows on the cassette and display are film!

Comment: To summarize, we can say the following: the quality of these devices has been declining over the years, I still remember the old Sharp number either 555 or 777, what a car it was! which sound! and the receiver is good and it was 30!!! years ago, alas, if there is any progress, it is not in this area... and here we have an average radio with some significant shortcomings, but if this is not important for someone, then the radio is quite acceptable, you can listen, judging by the reviews in On the Internet it is considered the best in the range of up to 6000 rubles, I wonder what others are then? I hope that Panasonic will be true to its quality and reliability! Happy shopping everyone!

Advantages: Pleasant balanced sound, good materials, high-quality assembly (Indonesia), discreet but solid appearance (Back to the 90s design :)), convenient control panel, equalizer with presets and the ability to independently adjust high and low frequencies , “Sound around” function (Surround), re-mastering function (frequency restoration for MP3 recordings), USB (read a 32 GB flash drive with an audio collection of 1500 tracks), cassette player with Full Autostop (also turns off when rewinding), line input (you can use the radio as acoustics for a computer or phone), alarm clock.

Disadvantages: So far I have found only one miscalculation of Japanese engineers :) Music port (aka linear input) can only be turned on from the remote control. If the batteries run out, it will be unavailable.

Comment: After a thorough study of the portable audio market, I came to the conclusion: today there are no competitors to this boombox.

Rating 5

Advantages: The radio sounds good at an average volume level, then if you raise it above 30 (readings on the display), the bass is cut off, this happens forcibly, regardless of the nature of the music - but distortion is thus reduced to nothing. The device is strict, looks beautiful, nothing superfluous, no light bulbs, no protrusions. Therefore, the radio is easy to care for; wiping off dust takes 2 seconds. USB playback starts quite quickly; when turned off, if you do not remove the flash drive, it remembers where it stopped. A 2-way speaker system with bass reflexes is rather nonsense for devices of this type. The only radios that are assembled in Indonesia.

Disadvantages: The power cord is somehow clumsily inserted, with some kind of click. "doesn't play" MP3 tracks. Although maybe I haven't figured it out yet.

Comment: The radio is definitely worth buying!

Rating 5

Advantages: The radio tape recorder without any doubt turned out to be very successful.
Compact size and excellent sound quality.
The points:
Excellent quality, deep sound! Filled with live Bass (with a capital B). A sufficient number of sound adjustments with preset equalizer adjustments. And this, despite the very modest dimensions W40*H15*D25 cm, and these are the dimensions of the center channel speaker in HI-FI home theater sets. Amazingly accurate and very smooth sound volume adjustment, you can set a very quiet sound volume, for example, going to bed and setting the sleep timer will not irritate with loud sound and disturb. At the same time, at a low volume the entire depth of sound does not disappear, which indicates a high-quality radio amplifier.
Possibility to use the radio as a clock radio. Installing a set of batteries saves time when the power is turned off.

Disadvantages: Disadvantages: lack of VHF, small LCD display, which is visible only when close enough. All control of the radio is available only from the remote control and there is extremely poor control on the radio itself, only the most basic functions. Sleep timer 30-60-90-120 in my opinion in increments of 15 or 10 minutes would be better. No batteries included. Quite narrow stereo directionality 50-60°.

Comment: Great item for the right price.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Advantages: Excellent sound, very convenient controls, compactness, high sound power, no distortion at high volumes and the sound is generally well balanced. Adjusting timbres. Work with cassettes at a good level: proprietary mechanics with search for the next track and sensible hitchhiking. Pre-amplification of the linear aux input is just for players and smartphones that have a weak headphone output, constant USB power, which allows you to connect a Bluetooth headset - that is, everything is thought out to the smallest detail in the mind

Disadvantages: For the clock memory you need to insert an AA battery, although this cannot be considered a disadvantage.

Comment: I spent a long time choosing a compact device for listening to discs/from a flash drive. Initially I bought the Sony model but was disappointed by the poor sound quality. This boombox was head and shoulders above the competition, without a doubt. Here I read some nonsense about it, like the lows get smeared at high volumes. There is no “smearing”; at maximum volume, the bass timbre decreases slightly, but this, again, is at maximum volume. Stereo widening increases the volume of the stereo, so that if the voice is recorded in mono, it will be quieter. This is the norm. The audio input is designed for connecting players/smartphones - read the instructions. When connecting the laptop, turn the system volume to 1/3 and there will be no crackling noises. “If you just rub your fingers on the other end of the wire inserted into the audio input at maximum volume” - I haven’t read anything more stupid... My advice is to use the device for its intended purpose

Rating: 5 out of 5

Pros: Unexpectedly clear, powerful and high-quality sound pleased me. Control from the remote control is fully accessible. In addition to playing discs or a flash drive, if necessary, you can connect an MP3 player or play music from a mobile phone via a 3.5mm - 3.5mm minijack cord. Nice design.

Disadvantages: No particular ones found. Small orange display. The very bright backlight is annoying - the information on the display is hard to read.

Comment: I bought it to listen to the radio in the garage. While still in the store, I noticed that the sound was an order of magnitude better than other radios. When I inserted the disc, I was surprised at the quality. I took it home from the garage and now I listen to music on it. They sell a lot of low-grade stuff now. This device is a rare exception.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Pros: Convenient remote control, excellent and powerful sound quality, USB input.

Disadvantages: None

Comment: I love good and high-quality sound. I chose a radio for outdoor recreation. There was an opportunity to compare many models of portable radios. In terms of sound quality and power, the PANASONIC RX-D55 currently has no competitors. Very pleased with the purchase.

In the age of digital media, all kinds of CDs, the Internet and all kinds of gadgets, analog media have faded into the background. But they didn’t completely die. There are still those who appreciate “warm, tube” analog sound. A clear proof of this is the return to fashion of vinyl players, which now cost a lot of money. But what about cassettes? Of course, the sound on these media is not as high quality as on vinyl, but they also have their fans. Along with the era of cassettes, multifunctional devices for playing them (tape recorders and decks) have sunk into oblivion. However, there are some signs that tapes will soon return. Proof of this is the release of the Panasonic RX-D55 radio. And this is in 2014! Let's take a closer look at this universal device.

A little about the company

This company was founded back in 1919. True, then it was called differently. But this in no way detracts from her venerable age. Over its history, the manufacturer has been engaged in the production of specialized production equipment, all kinds of electronics (including household ones), the production of mobile phones, cameras, players and the production of many other goods. Those made in Japan were especially valued. At that time, the company's label was considered synonymous with the highest quality products. And even now nothing has changed. Proof of this is the Panasonuc RX-D55 radio tape recorder. But more on that later.

Around the eighties of the last century, the company mastered the production of multifunctional sound “combines”, which included a CD player, radio and cassette deck. Such devices have become very popular among potential buyers. Therefore, the company decided to expand the line of popular products. But many years have passed since then. What made Panasonic release a cassette recorder in our time? Nobody knows this. But the Panasonic RX-D55 EE K became a real bestseller. Now let's look at it in more detail.

Contents of delivery

So, the Panasonic RX-D55 comes in a colored cardboard box. Inside are all the necessary pieces of paper, the radio itself, a remote control (by the way, a rather large one), a wire for connecting to the electrical network and batteries to make the clock work. You shouldn't expect more from such a product. This is still not a high-tech gadget, but a kind of “hello from the nineties.” Therefore, you will not find anything supernatural in the package. But this is for the better. Brevity is the soul of wit.

Nevertheless, the presence of batteries and a remote control is incredibly pleasing. There is one more feature included in the Panasonic RX-D55 package - the operating instructions are completely in Russian. Although in the case of the Panasonic TM there is nothing surprising in this. In addition to the instructions, there is also a warranty card. The product warranty is one year. This is quite enough for such a device.

Appearance and Design

Panasonic RX-D55 looks like an ordinary tape recorder from the nineties. This similarity is aggravated by the presence of a cassette deck on the top panel. There are several color options: black and silver. Which one is better and more practical is up to the buyer to choose. But both options are made of durable, high-quality plastic. The front panel houses the LCD display, CD tray, control buttons and all the necessary ports. This arrangement of the CD player is very convenient, as it eliminates the possibility of damage to the disc.

On the rear panel of the Panasonic RX-D55 there is a battery compartment, a headphone jack and various ventilation grilles. The power cord is also connected at the back. The advantage of this radio is also its weight. This immediately indicates that we have a high-quality and solid product. However, the design is a bit archaic. In any case, in 2017 it looks like a blatant anachronism. But the main thing is not appearance. It is much more important that it sounds. Let's move on to its functions.

Radio functions

So, what features can the Panasonic RX-D55 please us with? We won’t touch the characteristics for now. The device includes a cassette player with functions of auto-stop, fast rewind and search for the desired song. It provides playback of any magnetic cassette (even the most worn one). The radio also has a radio receiver with memory for 16 stations, operating in the FM-AM bands. Everything would be very good if there was also support for RDS - text information sent by radio stations. The radio also has an alarm function, which can be set using the remote control.

Below the LCD display is the CD player. It is capable of playing MP3, WAV, WMA, CD-AUDIO formats. Quite a good set for a radio made in the style of the nineties. But that's not all. Panasonic RX-D55 is equipped with a USB port, which makes it possible to play music from a regular flash drive. Song tags are also supported. And the radio can also be used as an amplifier with speakers for a laptop, PC or mobile phone. There is a special output for this on the front panel, called Music Port.

Specifications

Now let's move on to the most interesting thing - the technical characteristics of the Panasonic RX-D55 radio. The speakers are designed with ceramic diffusers, which should provide the highest sound quality. And judging by the reviews, this is indeed the case. The total power of the audio system is 20 watts. It turns out that there are approximately 10 watts per speaker. A high-quality reader from Panasonic is used as the magnetic “head” of the cassette player. The CD player laser is also produced by this company.

The radio has two-way speakers with a diameter of 80 millimeters. This provides fairly high-quality sound. Which is quite good if you think about the cost of this tape recorder. The Panasonic RX-D55 radio, which we will review a little later, supports CD-R and CD-RW standard CDs. There is no DVD support. And this is good, because otherwise the device would be much heavier and larger. So his absence is only a plus.

Sound quality

So, what kind of sound does the Panasonic RX-D55 have? According to the owners, it is simply gorgeous. Especially when playing high-quality, branded CDs. However, in order for the radio to “sound”, you need to perform some manipulations. The radio has a built-in equalizer that must be adjusted to ensure high sound quality. There is also a virtual stereo expansion button. And it really works! After pressing this key, the sound quality is noticeably smoother. In addition, volume appears.

Thanks to high-quality speakers with ceramic cones, the sound was much better than one could imagine. Even the playback of magnetic cassettes is very high quality. Although such sound is the hallmark of Panasonic products. Everyone has known this for a long time, which is why their products are deservedly popular. Especially if it was assembled in Japan. Then these devices have no price.

Positive reviews

Studying the reviews left by the owners of these devices helps you understand how the gadget works in real conditions, find out its strengths and weaknesses, and decide whether it is worth purchasing it at all. As for our hero, many write odes of praise to this device. They note the high sound quality, convenient and understandable settings, and multifunctional remote control. Fans of analog audio are delighted with the quality of cassette playback. Also, many are pleased with the price of the device and the opportunity to receive the Panasonic RX-D55 by mail. This makes this device very attractive to many music lovers.

Many users note the Panasonic RX-D55's superior build quality and overall quality of materials. Everything is adjusted to the millimeter. Nothing creaks, cracks or falls off anywhere. This is a sign of a quality product. In general, there are much more positive reviews about this device than negative ones. But Panasonic doesn’t have it any other way. However, let's now look at the reviews of the dissatisfied. They are. They cannot not exist. So...

Negative reviews

Those who leave dissatisfied comments want something more from a product such as a universal cassette player with cassette deck. Yes, there are many alternative options on the market now, but they are all much more expensive. So let's not look an almost gift horse in the mouth. From constructive criticism, it should be noted that the Panasonic RX-D55 does not open the cassette receiver. Sometimes. Apparently there was a manufacturing defect. It's all about the latches here. You need to physically open it, clean the latches and try again. Many also lament that the batteries required for battery operation are small in size, which negatively affects battery life. But with other batteries the device would become many times heavier. The designers thought it would be better this way. These are the main disadvantages of the radio. Otherwise, she's fine.

Conclusion

The Panasonic RX-D55 universal radio has the ability to play music from magnetic and USB drives. The device also includes a radio receiver. Based on the price-quality ratio, this model is the best on the modern market of universal music players. A plus is the amazing sound.

Characteristics

Some additional functional characteristics of the model.

The trend of miniaturization of mobile handsets is now apparently at its apogee. Almost all manufacturers produce tubes that will fit into any pocket or handbag. The Panasonic GD55 falls into this category. So it will be interesting to find out whether this device, with its reduced size, has become less functional than its “larger” brothers.

The body size of the device is only 77x43x16.9 millimeters, which puts it on par with such “babies” as Siemens CL50, Sony Ericsson T600 and VK Mobile VG107. The phone will easily fit into any trouser or jacket pocket. We can say that the size of the GD55 is already very close to the limit, after which it will be difficult for a person with an average-sized palm to use the phone. The device weighs only 65 grams. There are three different body colors: silver, pink and red (although now you can only find the first option on the shelves).

User Interface and Display. The monochrome display with a resolution of 112x64 pixels used in the GD55 is capable of displaying up to 4 lines. It leaves a very pleasant impression thanks to its width and very beautiful blue backlight (by the way, the keyboard is backlit in the same color). When showing the main screen, the top line of the display is used to display information about the reception level and battery charge. The bottom line in normal mode is used to display labels for soft keys.

The phone's menu system resembles most of the menus found in other Panasonic GD series phones, although the navigation is two-way (up and down only).

To speed up access to frequently used functions, their “shortcuts” can be “glued” to the keyboard keys, and then you won’t have to go into the menu, but simply press the desired key.

The standard information displayed on the phone (network name, date and time) can be replaced with one of the pictures available on the phone. Even though the display is not color, it will give the phone at least some personality.

Connection. Like all Panasonic phones, the GD55 is equipped with a jack for connecting a hands-free headset. The sound quality is good, the sound is loud enough both when playing through a hands-free headset and during a normal conversation. Signal sensitivity is satisfactory. The phone's microphone is very sensitive, you can talk even if you are at a short distance from the phone.

Messaging. This is not to say that it is completely impossible to write a message on this phone, but some difficulties may arise in getting used to the small keys, which are located at a very short distance from each other and protrude just slightly above the body of the device. When typing, it is best to use only your fingertips.

The T9 predictive messaging system used in this phone is the most common of such systems and does not require any special comments. The only thing is that the manufacturers say that they have slightly changed the operating algorithm of this system and advise everyone, even those previously familiar with it, to once again read the manual for its use.

Two message types are supported: SMS and EMS. The length of the sent message is limited to 160 characters. Using EMS messages, you can send formatted text, as well as static pictures and animation.

Keyboard. The keys on the keyboard are so small that you have to press them with your fingertips, and the distance between the buttons is less than on the average phone keyboard, so when typing quickly there is a danger of making a mistake and hitting the wrong key.

In addition, there are some other problems with the keyboard. If the interval between presses is too small, the keyboard may not perceive pressing one of the buttons. This may occur, for example, when typing an SMS.

Another feature is that pressing a key causes a beep regardless of whether the keyboard lock is on or not. This looks quite strange.

Battery. The phone comes with a 720 mAh lithium-ion battery. According to the manufacturer, the phone operates up to 230 hours in standby mode and up to 7-9 hours in talk mode. In practice, the device's talk time is just over 4 hours, and with not very intensive use, the battery does not require recharging for 3-4 days. These indicators are very good and deserve only praise.

Sound. The melodies in the device, despite its size, are very loud, which, I must admit, really surprised us. You can use 30 preset melodies and sound signals. You can also compose melodies yourself using the built-in Melody Composer program. In total, the phone allows you to have up to 5 custom ringtones.

Organizer. The phone book of the device allows you to record up to 250 numbers. You can use the phone memory and SIM card at the same time. Phonebook supports all standard functions, such as selecting a number when sending messages, retrieving and recording the message sender's number in the phonebook, and displaying the caller's number or name as a message header. The division of subscribers into groups is supported. There is also a calculator, a currency converter, an organizer, a calendar, and a time/cost counter for calls.

Conclusion. The main advantage of the GD55 is undoubtedly its size. Despite its small size, the phone has a fairly comfortable keyboard and a fairly large display. Functionally, the phone is also quite well equipped. But while working with it, some problems arose that prevented me from giving the phone an “excellent” mark. This includes the lack of normal synchronization with the PC, problems with the keyboard, and unnecessary voicing of keys in Lock mode.

When thinking about alternatives, it should be remembered that they do not have any serious advantages over the GD55. Sony Ericsson is good only for the lack of an external antenna, good games and the fact that it is Sony Ericsson.
