Summer for our Golf is like a shortened working day. Summer tires require minimal break-in, so the mileage is not as high, and in general, life is not as stressful as in winter.

However, in the midst of summer, almost simultaneously with the release of our last report on the "Golf" (ЗР, 2014, No. 7), the car began to voice road bumps on the right side. Light clicks on bumps are usually produced by the tie rod end, more deaf - by the ball joint.

We checked it - it is true: the right tip of the steering wheel slightly plays. After making sure that the backlash is minimal and does not affect safety, and clicks are heard only on a broken road, we decided to tolerate an extraneous sound until the next maintenance. Fortunately, up to the mark "60,000", judging by the odometer, there were a couple of thousand kilometers.

I like the exterior mirrors of modest size and good shape: they provide a sufficient rear view image and at the same time do not impair side visibility.

Service work was expensive. The replacement of engine oil, filters and spark plugs provided for by the regulations was supplemented by the replacement of both steering rod ends. Naturally, this operation required the adjustment of the angles of the front wheels. In addition, servicemen strongly recommended flushing the entire fuel system, including injectors.

We remembered that on the previous car (Skoda Octavia with the same engine) we did not perform such operations, however, at a mileage of 90,000 km, we changed the electric fuel pump, which, as the autopsy showed, “ran out” due to not very clean gasoline. We decided not to repeat the mistakes of youth and increase the life of an expensive unit, relying on proactive cleaning of the fuel system.

The funniest place for little things is a mug holder, and even with a cutout for a handle. In between test runs, she needs one hundred percent!

As a result, almost 25,000 rubles had to be paid for the service. How many thousands of kilometers we managed to push back the upcoming replacement of the fuel pump, time will tell.

They decided to save money on the front brake pads by buying a TRW kit for 1690 rubles instead of the original ones, which are twice as expensive. Yes, and replacing it on your own (not such a complicated procedure) is also savings.

They did the same with the wiper blades - they found a completely high-quality option, which cost a little more than 1,500 rubles. Having made sure that the braking efficiency of the car has not deteriorated, and the brushes clean the glass regularly, we can state that when servicing even such thoroughbred cars as the Volkswagen Golf, you can save a little.

For three years, I have not found a use for the ceiling pocket: glasses cannot be squeezed in there, and there is not enough depth to securely store driver's documents.

And one more very interesting observation. In the third year of service, small (two or three square centimeters) chips appeared on the bumpers, exposing black plastic. Having carefully studied the locations of the spots (practically at the corners), we came to the conclusion that the paint peeled off at the points of contact of the machine with the cones during the test rearrangement. There are no such chips on the body.

Despite the apparent simplicity of style, the Volkswagen Golf 6 does not look budget or cheap. The flared shoulder line makes the hatchback visually more squat and stretched, although its length, compared to its predecessor, has even been slightly reduced.

The new VW Golf VI has a length equal to 4,199 (the size of the wheelbase is 2,578 mm), a width of 1,779 mm, a height of 1,479 mm, and a ground clearance (clearance) of 150 mm. The hatchback's trunk volume is 350 liters, but increases to 1,305 liters when the rear seatbacks are folded down.

Salon Volkswagen Golf 6 creates the feeling that you are in a car, at least a class higher. Also in the line for the Volkswagen Golf 6 there are two TSI petrol turbo engines with a volume of 1.2 (85 and 105 hp) and 1.4 (122 hp) liters. As an alternative to a robotic transmission, they are offered traditional mechanics, but already six-speed (with the exception of the 85-horsepower engine).

For those for whom the power of standard engines is not enough, it is possible to buy a 210-horsepower two-liter modification of the Golf GTI, or a top version of the Golf R hatchback with all-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter TSI engine that produces 255 “horses”. Both variants are available in both three- and five-door body styles.

The design of the front of the "sixth Golf" used a horizontal grille between the headlights, painted in shiny black. The bumper lines go well with the design of the radiator. At the bottom is an expanded air intake, like a grille, painted black. Also on the black base are chrome-plated headlight frames, giving the image of the car a certain swiftness.
And in general, the design of the car is dominated by horizontal lines. Widely spaced taillights give a unique "night look". The interior of the Volkswagen Golf 6 is not as simple as the exterior. Inside, you get the feeling that you are in an almost “premium class” car. By the way, this model has repeatedly made "revolutions" in the quality of finishing materials. That seems to be the case this time as well. Details such as the satin-gloss chrome trim, or the rounded instruments and steering wheel borrowed from the Passat CC model, give the Volkswagen Golf the impression of being in a higher class. And all this is true not only for the improved configuration options (Comfortline and Highline), but also for the basic one (Trendline).

To enter the European market, Volkswagen is offering the 6th generation Golf with four petrol and two diesel engines ranging from 80 to 160 hp. But not all of them are represented in Russia.

For the first test drive, we chose a VW Golf with a new 2.0 liter diesel engine. (which they promised to bring to Russia, but "did not deliver"). The new 110-horsepower TDI works in conjunction with a 6-speed automatic. This engine stands out for its particularly low fuel consumption in the combined cycle - only 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers. At the same time, the car has decent dynamics. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 10.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is 194 km / h.

The test drive of the sixth Volkswagen Golf took place on European roads, which are constant left-right turns, but without serious height differences. It is on such roads that the controllability of the car is best tested. And "Golf", whatever one may say, is, albeit very distant, but a relative of "Porsche". And this "genetic fact", apparently, can explain the perfect controllability of the "golf-class parent".
The car is too simple (and even somehow “boring”) to carry out the driver’s commands, giving no reason to doubt its devotion. If the submissiveness of the car begins to annoy the driver and he intentionally makes a mistake - the Volkswagen Golf, equipped even in the basic version with the ESP system, quickly “cools the human ardor” - the “Golf” begins to slow down, preventing dangerous behavior trends.

Prices for VW Golf 6 in 2009:

  • In the basic configuration of Trendline (1.6, 75 kW / 102 hp, 5-speed manual gearbox) ~ 592 thousand rubles.
  • In the maximum Highline (this is 1.4 TSI DSG, 90 kW / 122 hp, 7-speed DSG) a little more than 812 thousand rubles.
  • Well, a two-liter engine is only in the Golf GTI 2.0 TSI (this is 155 kW / 210 hp, 6-speed manual gearbox or DSG), and its price, respectively, is 1077 thousand rubles and 1127 thousand rubles.

That is, as we are already “used to”, despite promises, there will be no official “diesels” in Russia - only gasoline versions.
